An online poker site has come up with a novel way of playing the popular gambling game - by letting players earn company equity as they play. PokerShare.com allows players to earn "points" which can be traded against various items such as clothing, or 'freeroll' into tournaments, but for every point they earn, players also receive a "Share Point" effectively a share in the company's profits. At the end of each quarter, the company hands out 40 per cent of its profits to shareholders. Players can earn one point for every hour they play a ring game, six points for each dollar they pay to enter tournaments and various numbers of points for each cash pot they contribute to. The company hopes to encourage and foster new player involvement on its site, whilst also preserving the shareholding interest of the players. "Our concept is clear-cut and built for the players with their needs in mind," claims Stephen Forsyth, chairman of Playit Ownit the company behind the website. "PokerShare fills a gap that no other serious poker site has and is going above and beyond standard loyalty schemes," he added.
