Poker Tournaments
Poker games are very popular and thousands of people worldwide play it online. The rules of online poker tournaments are the same as those of poker games played in land based casinos. The only difference is that in online poker the players do not sit face-to-face. To participate in online poker tournaments one must visit the website if the casino and register online as per the schedule of games. This means one must pay the buy-in amount plus a fee to the casino and then start play. The buy-in goes towards the prize while the casino keeps a percentage.

One can check the exact time, the buy-in and the type of poker available for play at a particular time. All players receive the same number of chips and play begins. The game follows rounds of betting regulated by the dealer. Some players will lose all their chips and be out of the game. The person who remains until the end of the game emerges victorious and gets the prize. The prize distribution depends on the form of poker played.

There are four types of tournaments, sit-and -go, and multi-table, free roll and satellite tournaments. There are about ten players around a table in a sit-and-go tournament. There is only one winner and players compete against each other at the same table.

There are almost a thousand players in multi-table tournaments. The winner of one-table moves to the next table and this continues for several hours until there is just one winner. Free-roll tournaments have no fee for registration. They give one a chance to win real money free. Satellite tournaments are small tournaments where the winner gets a seat into any of the World Series of Poker tournaments.

Some tournaments called re-buy tournaments permit players to purchase extra chips after the games begin. This can happen only up to a certain point in the tournament. Some games have no limits to the amount of bets placed, while pot limit implies the maximum wager cannot be greater than the jackpot.

Online poker tournaments have buy-ins from a few dollars upwards, so anybody can take part in them. Texas Hold'em is the most popular version of poker played online while other forms played includes 7-Card Stud, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo and 7-card stud Hi/Lo.

Poker tournaments can have fixed betting or very flexible betting where the wager depends on the player. In fixed betting, the wager is limited to the amount fixed by the casino. Similarly, the winnings depend on the casino. Some tournaments have a single victor while in others the winners get proportional amounts of the prize money, depending on their hands.

It is easy to enter poker tournaments, but one must have a plan in mind to win the games. This is possible if one chooses a poker room where the games are fast-paced. One should set the betting as per one's budget so that one does not go overboard. An amateur must play carefully and lean the fine art of deception while professionals can play forcefully.

Poker tournaments thus give all types of players a chance to earn good money and are a good and wholesome form of entertainment for people of all ages. One must have patience and be smart enough to guess the opponent's moves to stay put in the game.
